The video below is a compilation of the announcements made during the Tech Forum at NAVER HQ on November 23rd. On this day, Jongyoon Peck, leader of the autonomous driving group, and Donghwan Lee, leader of the vision group, presented the current status of NAVER LABS' digital twin technology.
Why Did NAVER Make a Digital Twin of the Entire City of Seoul?

"NAVER LABS owns the technology to create megacity-scale digital twins. The Seoul Digital Twin Project is one of its outcomes. Although it appears like video footage from a drone, the clip is actually the 3D restoration result of the entire city. This is based on footage filmed by a plane from 1.5km above ground. This is why the cars on the road do not appear to move. All roads, buildings, and landmarks in the city center have been recreated in 3D. Digital twin data, identical to the real world can be used for various urban simulations."
“The advantage of the ALIKE solution, which is NAVER LABS’ digital twin solution, is that it is possible to obtain multiple outcomes through a single process. First, we can create a megacity-scale 3D model, and then derive the road layout which is a map of road structures. By combining this with the data acquired through MMS (mobile mapping system), we can also create HD maps for autonomous vehicles.”
NAVER 1784, The Entire Building as a Digital Twin

“1784, NAVER’s second headquarters, consists of 29 floors and is about 100,000㎡ wide. We have obtained approximately one million images by covering a distance of 60km by using mobile robots, backpack type devices, etc. After the digital twin is created, all the areas where the data has been collected turn into areas where one’s location can be identified from a single image. This is also the case with 1784.”
“Being able to scan large spaces very quickly reduces the time required to create digital twins. Also, different types of spaces require different mapping robots and devices. NAVER LABS has been dedicated to creating mapping devices and has developed its own original devices since its very inception.”
